Nicoletta Barolini

What was the inspiration behind your artwork?

To communicate the movements of the virus.

What do you see as the similarity between science and art? Why is science-art important in today's society?

Visualizing science is another way of understanding the forces of the natural world in a way that cannot be expressed in words alone.

Get to know the artist!

Currently, I am the art director in the Office of Communications & Public Affairs at Columbia University. I use visual communication tools such as design, illustration, text, animation, video and photography to help fulfill the university’s mission of higher learning and cutting-edge research by executing a myriad of outward and inward-facing graphic design needs for Columbia. Additionally, I work with Columbia researchers on a number of scientific and technical illustrations for journal covers, presentation graphics, and art for grant applications. I also work with other clients such as Boston Medical, CUNY, Cal Tech, Harvard, and others on a freelance basis
